Overview
Baraadsar Lake, sacred to local communities, is a high altitude lake lying on the border of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, between the Rupin and Supin valleys in Western Garhwal. The trail starts out from the Rupin valley through various villages, forest and finally over the ridge separating Rupin and Supin valleys with excellent panoramic views. Tucked away inside a massive cauldron surrounded by virgin peaks, with difficult access and barely any information, it is one of the lesser known treks in the area.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Dehradun to Himri - 190 km Drive
Reporting time is 4 AM at Dehradun ISBT . We board a vehicle from here & start our road journey to Himri. The route is via Nainbag and Damta & is extremely beautiful. From Purola we enter the Tons valley. As we reach Netwar we drive along the Rupin river. Reach Himri by late afternoon . For the night we camp by Rupin river.
Day-2
Himri to Bhitri (8,202 ft) to Kurla Thatch (8,530 ft) - 8 km
Travel by jeep to Bhitri, which is the last motor able village on our route. At 2500 m, Bhitri is a large village with a big temple in the centre of the village courtyard. From Bhitri, the trail is easy and wide for around 2 km till Sarutal, a small seasonal pond. From here, the path goes through forests before opening up to a wide clearing at Kurla Thatch.
Day-3
Kurla Thatch to Rikatik Odi (11,811 ft) - 8 km
The trail today is steep in the beginning through the forest for around 2 kms before reaching the main ridge, offering commanding views of Kalanag and Swargarohini towards the east. Continue ascending gradually as the vegetation reduces to shrubs and grasses to reach Rikatik Odi, our campsite for the day.
Day-4
Rikatik Odi to Devbasa (11,975 ft) - 9 km
Today, the path traverses up and down along the ridge before we reach the base of the Baraadsar ridge. From here, you can see switchbacks leading up to the steep Baraadsar ridge. Devbhasa is a cold, rocky and windswept campsite. Stay here for the night.
Day-5
Devbasa to Baraadsar Ridge Camp (14,435 ft) - 8 km)
The trek today is mostly uphill and tedious. From Devbasa we start a steep climb up the Baraadsar ridge. Baraadsar ridge is the highest point if the trek at an altitude of 4400m. We are likely to encounter snow and glaciers on the way. The ridge is a tricky climb. One notices a remarkable lack of vegetation as we climb the ridge and leave Devbasa behind. The grasses and flowery meadows are replaced by rocks and stones. On the other side of the ridge there is a welcome descent and the sound of rumbling water as glaciers melt into streams of water. The view is exhilierating and refreshing. We descend into the plainer areas and set camp for the night. Small hilly flowers and grassy vegetation cover the land. There is a lack of firewood. Goatherd camps can be seen at a distance.
Day-6
Baraadsar Ridge Camp to Devbasa via Baraadsar Lake (14,107 ft) - 14 km
Early mornings offer a clear and beautiful view of the Bharaadsar lake. The lake is hidden behind a cliff. It is roughly a 3 km distance from the camping site and can be done easily with the day's freshness. The lake is a beautiful sight covered by towering cliffs on one side and slopes on the other. We can approach the lake easily. In the colder months one can see the lake partially frozen. The lake gives rise to a stream that flows down from one end. The source of the lake is a mystery among the locals but it is mostly fed by the glaciers and snow on the sorrounding ridges. After having our fill of the lake we start the return journey to Devbhasa. The steep Bharaadsar ridge is as tricky going down as it is coming up. We slowly and surely return back to the greener terrains of Devbasa and camp for the night. One can spot the Bharaadsar ridge from here to get a sense of the towering heights scaled during the last 48 hours. Relax and enjoy the camp at Devbasa.
Day-7
Devbasa to Boincha (6,561 ft) - 13 km

Cross the villages of Rala and Kasla, surrounded by potato and rajma fields. Keep descending down the valley for another few kilometers, passing Phitari village, to reach the Obra-Supin confluence. Spend the night here.
