ABOUT THE DESTINATION
This is an ideal beginners trek and is takes you through mountain villages, which are seldom visited. The trek starts at Bitri village in the Rupin valley. The chief objective is to cross the high ridge separating the Rupin and Supin valley. The initial part of the trek takes you through a thick forest. On Day 3, the forest disappears and you start walking through meadows. After a steady climb, you reach Vijay Top (3700 M), the high point on the ridge separating Rupin and Supin valleys. It’s nothing short of panoramic, commanding stunning view in all directions. Towards east you get to see Swaragrohini, Banderpunch and Kalanag soaring into the sky. Toward the north is the ridge leading upto Baraadsar Lake and towards the west, you can see the peaks around Kinnaur. The trail descends further into the Supin valley which offers some amazing campsites. As you descend down to the valley floor, you pass through Khasla, the highest campsite in the Supin valley followed soon by reaching Phitari. The trek ends in Jakhol from where you drive back to Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
Weather: The Rupin and Supin Valley trek base night be cold day temperatures are pleasant during the season.
Summer temperatures: Rupin and Supin Trek. (Day time +5° C to +15° C)
Location Chart: Drive - Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, Mussorie, Nowgaon, Purola, Netwar, Himari, Bitri, Sarutal, Badang MasundhaDhar, Vijay Top, Pachithach, Fhitari, Dhara, Jakhol, Sankari. It is located in the northeastern part of uttarakhand starting from close to the Himachal border, heading east and then south
Day 1 - Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India TO HIMRI (Drive)
Pickup from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India Railway station at 7a.m and drive towards Himri aka Tons valley in a shared taxi. The route is extremely beautiful and one finds himself winding his way up into the mountains via Nainbag and Damta. Purola is the last big city on the route with good network connectivity. It is a beautiful city with scenic farmlands. After Purola we cut into the Tons valley and cross Mori and Netwar. From Netwar we follow the Rupin river upwards. Himri is roughly half way between Netwar and Dhaula. We break for the day and camp by the river side. Rupin has clear blue water that rumbles down the hills.
Day 2 - HIMRI TO BHEETRI (Drive) AND BHEETRI TO KURLA THAACH
Altitude: 8530mt
Distance: 8hr km trek
We leave Himri after light breakfast. Jeeps are arranged for travel to Bheetri, which is the last motorable village on our route. Bheetri stands at roughly 2500m altitude from sea level. For its altitude, Bheetri is a large village with over a hundred households. The village folks are mostly agrarian. The local diety is Sherkudeya Devta, or the Whistling God, and like in all villages of the area, a big temple stands in his honour in the centre of the village courtyard. From Bheetri we start our journey on foot. We cross the village and after a short distance of 2 km we come across Sarutaal, a beautiful seasonal pond at the edge of the cliff. The lake and the cliff overlook the Rupin valley below. After a short break to catch our breath and enjoy the view, we move further. Forest cover starts soon after (? Trees ?). A 6 km hike gets us to our destination for the day - Kurla Thaach (2600m). A thaach is a grassy opening in the middle of the forest. These grassy meadows are home for Gujjars and their herds of cattle and equines. You can easily spot cows, buffalloes, horses and khacchars grazing in the grassy pastures. These animals are domestic in nature and do not pose a threat but one should refrain from getting too close to them lest we frighten them. We spend the night at Kurla.
Day 3 - KURLA TO RIKATIK ODI
Altitude: 11646ft
Distance: 8 km
We start early next morning and begin our ascent upwards. We leave the forest behind after a couple of kilometers and reach the top of the mountain face. This spot is called Simon Tee and it offers a great view of the higher peaks of the vicinity. We continue along the mountain tops. There is a slight elevation as we move forward. We cross a ridge and reach Rikatik Odi which is the connecting point between the Rupin and Supin valley. On the Rupin side of the ridge we have the Bheetri and Dhaula villages. On the Supin side of the ridge we have Kasla and Fitadi villages. Rikatik Odi is fairly high in altitude (approximately 3600m) and lacks dense vegetation. There are no trees at this height, just shrubs and grasses. In the spring season there are many flowers to be observed on the slopes. Rikatik Odi offers a few good camping sites and we settle there for the night.
Day 4 - RIKATIK ODI TO PHITADI VILLAGE
Altitude: 6561 ft
Distance: 6 km
we leave the rupin valley behind and head towards the supin valley. This is a lovely walk through conifer forests . the gradient is low and once we eneter the tree line it becomes a very enjoyable walk . we reach phitadi village at a leisurely pace . this is another typical village in the garhwal Himalayas with wooden house and slate stone roofs. We can visit a home stay and spend sometime with them .
Day 5 - PHIDATI TO JAKHOL (Trek)
Altitude: 6223ft
Today is the last day of our trek. We leave Phitadi village and walk towards jakhol. The trail is again well defined and many farms along the way. We reach Jakhol village which is the entrance to the Supin valley . This village has a large temple dedicated to the local deity. We spend some time in the village and leave for Sankri later . After reaching Sankri, relax, spend some time strolling around the beauyiful village. Overnight stay and dinner in tents.
Day 6 - SANKRI - Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India (7hrs Drive)
Today we leave Sankri and head for dehradoon. Its a 7 hour drive . we reach Dehradoon and disperse later.

When we shift camps, we will ensure that the pit is well covered and the area is clean. For tea house treks, toilets are well maintained by the owners.
